### About Canvas Studio

[**Canvas Studio**](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660471-what-is-canvas-studio) **is a collaborative media integration licensed for** **all Caltech Canvas users** to create, upload, manage, and deliver video, audio, and YouTube content directly into Canvas courses **without impact on course storage limits,** eliminating the need for external media tools. Studio allows you to build a content library linked to your personal Canvas account, and your uploaded media can be shared and reused in any Canvas course you teach.

*Note that the* [*Studio link*](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660536-how-do-i-access-canvas-studio-through-my-canvas-course-navigation-menu-as-an-instructor) *in the* [*Course Navigation Menu*](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660741-how-do-i-manage-course-navigation-links)*, if enabled, is not directly accessible to students. It is intended only for instructors and TAs to access and manage course collections, and content must embedded in* [*Modules*](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/662761-what-are-modules) *or another Canvas feature that uses the* [*Rich Content Editor (RCE)*](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/662769-what-is-the-rich-content-editor-rce) *in order for students to have access.*

### How to Upload and Manage Media

- [Log into Canvas](https://caltech.instructure.com/) and click **Studio** in the left-hand Global Navigation menu to access your [Studio Library](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660471-what-is-canvas-studio#asset-management) *(below)*. *Anything you upload here can be reused across all of your courses.*
- In the upper right corner, select **Create** > **Add Media** to [upload a file](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660481-how-do-i-upload-media-files-in-my-canvas-studio-account) from your computer or add a [YouTube video](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660482-how-do-i-add-media-from-youtube-and-vimeo-in-my-studio-account) using YouTube [Player for Education](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/651366-youtube-player-for-education-faqs). *Use* ***Studio Capture*** *to create webcam and/or screen recordings with* [*Chrome/Edge*](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660483-how-do-i-record-a-webcam-video-in-canvas-studio-using-a-chrome-or-edge-browser) *or* [*Firefox/Safari*](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660484-how-do-i-record-a-webcam-video-in-canvas-studio-with-a-safari-or-firefox-browser)*.*

- **Auto-generated captions** are [published to all new media](https://canvas.caltech.edu/canvas-resources/accessibility#canvas-studio-automatic-captioning) uploaded after Oct. 30, 2024. We recommend [reviewing captions](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660518-how-do-i-add-auto-generated-captions-to-my-media-file-in-canvas-studio#review-caption-file) after your video has processed as [they may require editing](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660521-how-do-i-use-the-caption-editor-to-edit-a-caption-file) on critical topics or key words.
- **After processing** (you do not need to remain on the page during processing, but new content will not be accessible until completed), [click the title of your media](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660481-how-do-i-upload-media-files-in-my-canvas-studio-account#manage-media) to change it, add a description, adjust settings, or manage captions.
- Any media shared in a course is automatically saved in the [**Course Collections**](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660511-how-do-i-view-and-manage-a-collection-in-canvas-studio) drop-down (*below)*. To [create a new collection](https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/660510-how-do-i-create-a-collection-in-canvas-studio), click the **+** to the right of the **My Library** title bar.
