# Project A unified campus at Johanneberg

Here you can access information about the measures currently underway and those that have already been implemented.

The project involves the relocation of approximately 2,000 educational programme places and 200 employees from Lindholmen to Johanneberg between 2024 and 2029. A major milestone was reached in the autumn semester of 2025, when the Bachelor of Engineering programmes moved to Johanneberg. Today, the vast majority of the university’s students receive their teaching at Johanneberg. The remaining relocation from Lindholmen is expected to be completed by 2029.

## Work in progress

- Planning is underway for premises and environments at Lindholmen, for the activities that will be held there during the period 2025-2029.
- Plans are being made for the relocation that will take place from Lindholmen to Johanneberg in the next phase, in the years 2026-2029. This primarily concerns the department Computer Science and Engineering.
- Planning and preparations are underway for new study environments, which will be put into use at Johanneberg during 2026 to 2029.

- Several new learning environments have been put into use in autumn 2025. - [A new IT system for scheduling has been put into use, as well as a new schedule](https://www.chalmers.se/en/current/news/new-schedule-and-new-teaching-facilities-on-campus/ "New schedule and new teaching facilities on campus").
- [In autumn 2024, the Foundation year students moved from Lindholmen to Johanneberg](https://www.chalmers.se/en/current/news/johanneberg-will-be-the-campus-for-foundation-year-students/ "Johanneberg will be the campus for Foundation year students") – a year earlier than originally planned.

## A campus for all students

Since the mid-1990s, Chalmers University of Technology has conducted higher education at both Johanneberg and Lindholmen in Gothenburg. Over the years, plans to create a unified campus area have evolved. In February 2023, the university, in consultation with the student union, among others, decided that Johanneberg will become Chalmers' unified campus.

On Campus Johanneberg, there is a well-developed infrastructure for education that we want to develop further and share with all our undergraduate students. There are also synergies in gathering teaching in one vibrant campus area. For example, it provides better opportunities for joint studies, collaboration and community, both for students and teachers.

In total, approximately 2,000 educational programme places and 200 employees will relocate from Lindholmen to Johanneberg. The first major milestone was ensuring that campus Johanneberg would be ready to welcome the university’s undergraduate students by the start of the autumn semester in 2025. The move has now been completed, and that part of the project is therefore concluded. The remaining relocation is expected to be completed by 2029.

For you as a student, this means a more concentrated and cohesive experience of the campus at Johanneberg, with access to modern learning environments, study places and improved services.

## Lindholmen gets a stronger profile towards collaboration

Chalmers will remain at Lindholmen. Our operations at Lindholmen will gain a stronger profile towards collaboration with industry and society. It will thus be an important venue aimed at innovation and company-integrated research and education. Maritime education will continue to be based at Lindholmen.\
