Programme contents

Biomedical Engineering links together life sciences with traditional engineering sciences. Healthcare is placing ever-increasing and more fascinating technical demands on Biomedical Engineering, under growing demographic, ethical, ecological and cost pressures. Scientific and economic growth potential for Biomedical Engineering is believed to be very high, especially in Europe and the USA. In line with its motto 'Technology for people' and with its excellence in engineering sciences, TU Wien is rising to this challenge, both in its research and in research-led teaching, by focusing its activities in the field of Biomedical Engineering.

Further information about the programme

Orientation

It is also the ambition of this international and research-focused master's programme in Biomedical Engineering to increase the number of women in engineering sciences, to improve communication between the engineering discipline and society and to attract international students, particularly from Central Europe. Because of the international orientation of this course and of biomedical engineering as a subject, all compulsory elements of this master's programme will be provided in the English language.

Specialisations

The master's programme Biomedical Engineering offers the opportunity to specialise in one of the following areas: Biomaterials & Biodynamics, Biomedical Signals & Instrumentation, Mathematical & Computational Biology, and Medical Physics & Imaging.

Qualification profile

Graduates in this master's programme Biomedical Engineering will acquire a wide range of knowledge in their selected area of specialisation, as well as sufficient basic understanding of all areas of biomedical technology.\ In line with professional requirements, the master's programme Biomedical Engineering offers qualifications in the following areas: technical and methodological skills, cognitive and practical abilities, social competencies, innovation skills and creativity.

Language

Persons whose native language is not English have to prove their knowledge of the English language.
