The "TU Wien International" strategy concept has been in force since summer 2014. To further strengthen the TU Wien brand internationally, the following terms (affiliation) are used:

FAQ Logo usage
For the sake of simplicity, the TU Wien Trademark (i.e. the TU Wien logo), the TU Wien Signet as well as the TU Wien Subsignets (= CD-compliant sub logos of TU Wien) are referred to as the TU Wien logos.
1. What TU Wien logos are there?
TU Wien has a nationally registered trademark consisting of the figurative element (TU Wien Signet) and the text "Technische Universität Wien".
The registered trademark can be found at 1.1.1 TU Wien Trademark.
The publisher's marks can be found at 1.1.2. TU Wien Signet.
The TU Wien Subsignets are sub logos and consist of the TU Wien Signet and the secondary part that must fulfil certain stylistic criteria. The sublogo must be agreed with the PR and Marketing Service Unit. Examples can be found at 1.1.3. TU Wien Subsignets (sub logos).
2. Are the English terms "Technical University Vienna", "Vienna University of Technology", "TU Vienna" and the likes permissible in connection with the use with the logos of TU Wien?
No, the text "Technische Universität Wien" is always used. The TU Wien Trademark with an English text is not permitted. The TU Wien Trademark must be used with the text "Technische Universität Wien" in all languages.
3. Am I allowed to edit or change the logos of the TU Wien?
No, edits or modifications are not permitted and must therefore be omitted.
4. Am I allowed to design logos for my organizational unit?
No, only the logos mentioned in this Manual (i.e. the TU Wien Trademark, the TU Wien Signet and the TU Wien Subsignets) are to be used. If you need a sublogo for official use of an organizational unit of TU Wien, please contact produktion@tuwien.ac.at.
5. Am I allowed to use the logos of TU Wien as an employee?
Yes, provided that it is used for official purposes (if the tasks are performed within the framework of the employment relationship with the TU Wien).
The use is free of charge.
However, only the logos listed under 1.1. Logos may be used.
6. Am I allowed to use the logos of TU Wien in my secondary employment, e.g. for private appraisals?
No, the logos of TU Wien, especially the TU Wien Trademark, may not be used. In exceptional cases, however, use may be granted by written permission from the Head of the Service Unit of PR and Marketing.
7. Am I allowed to use the logos of TU Wien for my private company, my privately founded association or for my private membership in an organization?
No, the logos of TU Wien, especially the TU Wien Trademark, may not be used.
8. Am I allowed to use the TU Wien logos as a student?
Yes, as long as it is used for university activities, i.e. in connection with the educational and research-related intentions, such as presentations, work within the framework of a course.
The use is free of charge.
The use of TU Wien logos, especially the TU Wien Trademark, is not permitted for publications that can be assigned to the personal sphere (e.g. in particular own publications by publishers, independent consulting activities) or for private social media channels.
9. Am I allowed to allow cooperation partners to use TU Wien logos?
Cooperation partners are third parties who enter into a research cooperation or contract research with TU Wien.
The use of TU Wien logos is permitted, but only under the following conditions:
- The use is limited to the duration of the cooperation.
- A written agreement is required (e.g. as part of the cooperation agreement).
- Approval is granted by the Service Unit of Research and Transfer Support.
- The use is also limited to the cooperation/project in terms of content, e.g. for project reports, website, workshops, folders, image brochures, events and always with reference to the cooperation/project.
10. Am I allowed to allow sponsoring partners to use TU Wien logos?
To do so, please contact produktion@tuwien.ac.at.
11. Am I allowed to allow service providers, suppliers, contractors to use the logos of TU Wien?
This requires prior review by the Service Unit of PR and Marketing. Please contact the head of the Service Unit of PR and Marketing.
12. What is a reference?
This is a reference or addition relating to the cooperation, such as Partner of TU Wien, which is to be used when using the logos of TU Wien.
The reference is always to be used together with TU Wien logos and requires the written approval of the Head of the Service Unit of PR and Marketing.
13. Am I allowed to produce and sell products (e.g. t-shirts) bearing the TU Wien logos?
No, registered trademark rights are reserved exclusively for TU Wien. Violations of trademark rights are subject to sanctions under civil and criminal law. Should you wish to produce and/or sell merchandising items, please contact produktion@tuwien.ac.at in advance.
14. Am I allowed to advertise products, tutoring courses, etc. using TU Wien logos?
No, commercial use is not permitted if there is no written usage agreement with TU Wien.
15. Am I allowed to use TU Wien logos as a company name and/or domain?
No, usage rights are reserved exclusively for TU Wien. Prohibited usage may result in civil and criminal proceedings.
16. Am I allowed to put TU Wien logos on my private website?
No, private use is not permitted.
17. Am I allowed to register an Internet domain containing the phrase tuw/tuwien/Technische Universität Wien?
No, this is not allowed.
18. I have discovered a logo usage violation, what should I do?
Please report violations of the TU Wien logo usage to produktion@tuwien.ac.at.
