Master's Programme Technical Chemistry

The Master's Programme in Technical Chemistry provides a specialised education that is of a high quality in scientific and methodological terms and geared towards lasting knowledge, following which graduates will be prepared and able to compete internationally either for a higher qualification such as a relevant doctoral programme, or for employment in particular in the chemical industry or in a branch of industry in which chemical processes are important.

Building on a bachelor's degree in Technical Chemistry or equivalent, this master's programme leads to a professional qualification that is especially relevant to employment in the chemical industry, in other branches of industry in which chemical processes are important, in public authorities and in the service sector, typically with roles in research and development, production, quality assurance, and management.

Depending on the specialisation block selected, graduates of the master's programme Technical Chemistry will acquire:

The course consists of 6 ECTS credits for compulsory courses, 37 ECTS credits for compulsory courses in the selected specialisation, 37 ECTS credits for related elective modules, 10 ECTS credits for free electives and soft skills, and 30 ECTS credits for the Master's thesis, which takes the form of a small research project and introduces students to high quality research processes.

Master's Programme Chemistry and Technology of Materials

The Master's Programme Chemistry and Technology of Materials is offered as an inter-university course in partnership with the University of Vienna. Students may take courses at both universities with no bureaucratic hurdles.

The master's programme Chemistry and Technology of Materials provides specialised high-quality training in both science and methodology, and is geared towards lasting knowledge. This will enable graduates either to extend their qualifications further with a relevant doctoral study programme or to take up employment in areas of activity at the interface between chemistry and the technology of materials, and will make them internationally competitive. Graduates of this course have a broad understanding – based on the principles of chemistry and physics – of the relationships between the composition, structure and morphology of materials and of their chemical and physical properties. Their skills in chemistry will enable them to synthesise, modify and characterise materials for a range of different purposes.

The theoretical and practical abilities gained from the course will enable them to apply the relevant methods of synthesis, modification and characterisation in a problem and goal-directed manner, and to select a material suitable for a particular purpose.

Graduates of the course will be in a position to develop problem-solving solutions to issues of material chemistry both independently and in teams with engineers, physicists, material scientists and other scientists – issues that are of great importance to society in the 21st century.

Standard duration of study: 4 semesters (120 ECTS credits)
