TU Wien received the HR Excellence in Research Award

This award is presented by the European Commission within the framework of the EURAXESS initiative to research organisations that have a clear strategy for implementing the "European Charter for Researchers" and the "Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers".

In 2005, the European Commission adopted the "European Charter for Researchers", a set of general principles and requirements defining the roles, responsibilities and entitlements of researchers as well as employers and/or funding organisations. The TU Wien has committed itself to this charter and already in 2010 former rector Peter Skalicky signed the commitment of the TU Wien to "European Charter of Researchers" and "The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers".

In order to initiate the explicit examination of the principles of these documents and their implementation in a personnel strategy for researchers, TU Wien applied for the European Commission's HRS4R project on 3 October 2019 with the Letter of endorsement - signed by Rector Sabine Seidler, Vice-Rector for Research Johannes Fröhlich and Vice-Rector for HR and Gender Anna Steiger.

In a TUW internal project located at HR department, the development and implementation of the R&D personnel strategy will now take place step by step. In order to ensure continuous implementation of the catalogue of measures, the results will be continuously evaluated by the EU assessors (see timetable).

At the Moment seven other organisations in Austria (Fachhochschule St. Pölten, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU),FWF, Medizinische Universität Wien, University of Applied Sciences (Technikum Wien), Medizinische Universität Graz - Medical University Graz, University of Salzburg)  are allowed to use the HR in Excellence LOGO. At the same time as the TU Wien, the University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten also received the award.

In 2025, the European Commission formulated a newer version of the 2005 Charter & Code, namely the European Charter for Researchers, opens an external URL in a new window, which now provides the guidelines for the audits.
