# Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen - Maschinenbau (Mechanical Engineering - Management)

The Bachelor's Programme “Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen - Maschinenbau” (hereafter: Mechanical Engineering - Management) is based on the engineering foundation of classical mechanical engineering. It provides solid knowledge in mathematics, mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science, design engineering, and manufacturing technology—supported by practical laboratories, exercises, group work, and small projects. The program is complemented by business-related subjects such as business administration and (project) management, creating a broader skill set. This combination of engineering and business specifically prepares students for a subsequent master’s program or a versatile career at the interface between engineering and management.

The programme covers the following areas:

- **Mathematical and natural science subjects**
- **Systems science subjects**
- **Engineering subjects**
- **Design engineering and manufacturing technology**
- **Business administration**
- **Economics**

## Programme-PRe-Phase

There is no selection procedure for the Bachelor's degree programme in Mechanical Engineering - Management. Instead, before being admitted, you must engage with the contents of the programme as part of the so-called [Study Preparation and Reflection Phase](https://www.tuwien.at/en/studies/studies/bachelor-programmes/mechanical-engineering-management/programme-pre-phase) (Programme-PRe-Phase).

## Self-Assessment

The self-assessment is a mandatory component of the Programme-PRe-Phase. You may also complete the [self-assessment](https://studienwahl.tuwien.ac.at/index.htm) independently of the Programme-PRe-Phase (e.g., beforehand) for the purpose of self-reflection. After completing the self-assessment, you will receive an enrolment code. If you decide to apply for the selected degree programme, you do not need to complete the assessment again; you only need to upload the enrolment code you received within your Programme-PRe-Phase.

### Which skills are needed for academic success?

An interest in technical and scientific processes, economic and business-related contexts, and mechanical engineering are ideal prerequisites for the programme.

### What can I do with my degree?

The profession represents a modern, interdisciplinary qualification at the interface between engineering and business. It meets the strong demand from industry for engineers who are trained in economics and prepared for leadership roles. Career prospects are excellent, with many of our graduates holding top positions in business. The broad foundational education remains relevant for many years, enabling graduates to tackle new challenges and develop solutions.
