Unlocking the Future of Solar: Innovative PV Applications

Last week, the spotlight was on solar energy at TU Wien, where a panel of experts explored the cutting-edge applications of photovoltaic (PV) technology. The discussion, hosted at the historic Prechtlsaal at TU Wieen, attracted a diverse audience eager to hear how PV innovations are transforming industries and creating new opportunities.

Prof. Reinhard Haas from TU Wien, academic director of the MSc (CE) Renewable Energy Systems, opened the session with a powerful introduction, highlighting the disruptive potential of solar energy in driving sustainability. Herbert Brandner, representing Wien Energie and a proud MSc Renewable Energy Systems alumnus, followed with a deep dive into the latest PV projects by his company. Brandner shared how his academic journey shaped his career and the innovative solar initiatives at Wien Energie.

Jonathan Lunzer from ÖBB showcased how Austria’s railway system is integrating PV projects to enhance sustainability on a large scale, leaving the audience impressed with the forward-thinking approach. Jiri Bim of ZENERGO Energy rounded out the session with a detailed look at AgriPV regulations in the Czech Republic, underscoring how the right policies can accelerate renewable energy growth.

Moderated by Karin Mottl from Energiepark Bruck/Leitha, the session closed with an interactive Q&A that sparked fresh ideas and conversation around the future of solar energy. The evening proved to be a vibrant platform for learning, networking, and exchanging insights on the transformative power of PV technology.
