Examinations and other credits, that have been assessed positively, can be recognised if they were taken at a recognised post-secundary institute of education and are equal in the acquired competencies (learning outcomes).
Detailed information (in German only):
When can examinations be recognised?
The admission to a degree programme is required for a recognition. Prior to the start of the studies no information on potential recognition can be provided.
Can exams completed at TU Wien be recognised for another degree programme at TU Wien?
For positively assessed exams/courses completed at TU Wien, no application for recognition is required if the title, type, and number of ECTS credits is or were previously assigned to the respective curriculum or if they are used in the “Free Electives and Transferable Skills” category or for the curricular part of the doctoral programme.
Note: These exams will always be shown under the degree programme in which they were completed!
Exception: If the above conditions are not met and the exams/courses do not fall within the scope of transitional regulations, students must submit an application for recognition in accordance with § 78 UG.
How do I apply for recognition of exams?
Recognition of exams for the following degree programmes must be submitted via the recognition portal Jira:
- Chemical and Process Engineering,
- Civil and Environmental Engineering,
- Materials Sciences,
- Mechanical Engineering,
- Mechanical Engineering - Management,
- Technical Chemistry and
- Technical Physics.
When submitting the recognition request, transcripts and course descriptions of the completed exams or courses must be uploaded as an attachment.
For instructions on how to complete a recognition request, see the recognition reference directory.
For all other degree programmes the following steps are required for a recognition of exams/courses:
- Discuss with the respective dean of academic affairs (or vice dean of academic affairs) whether recognition of exams is possible.
- Fill out the Application form for Recognition of Exams. Please ensure that the course title matches the course number, otherwise the exam cannot be entered in the system.
- The respective dean of academic affairs (or vice dean of academic affairs) confirms the application by signature. If the application is not forwarded to the Admission Office directly by the dean's office, you must submit it yourself.
- Once the application for recognition has been submitted at the Admission Office, processing takes 4 to 8 weeks.
- Then, the Admission Office enters the recognised exams/courses in TISS (see “What can be entered in TISS?”) and sends the decision via mail. Keep this document, as it will be needed upon graduation.
What can be entered in TISS?
The system allows for entry of course numbers/free electives/transferable skills.
All other recognised exams without a course number, like modules, restricted electives, course titles without course numbers, “Differenz”, “Entwerfen”, etc. cannot be entered.
Can I have exams recognised which I completed as a co-registered student?
No.
Positively assessed exams/courses, which were completed at another university during an active enrolment at TU Wien as part of a co-registration can only be used as free electives and transferable skills, unless approval from the respective dean of academic affairs has been granted according to § 63 par. 9 Z 2 UG.
The transcript of records must be submitted at the dean's office upon graduation.
No application for recognition in accordance to § 78 UG is necessary!
