# Architektur (Architecture)
The Bachelor's Programme “Architektur” (herafter: Architecture) provides a broad introduction to the core areas of architectural practice. The central focus is on the design of buildings, spaces, and cities. This creative emphasis is complemented by theoretical, technical, and artistic components that provide fundamental knowledge across various disciplines. The programme offers a reflective approach to the complex interrelations between architecture, society, culture, environment, and technology. It establishes a solid understanding of the profession and lays the foundation for developing and subsequently deepening your own interests.
The programme covers the following subject areas:
- **Representation and Design**
- **Fundamentals of Architectural Design**
- **Scientific and Technical Foundations** (Structural Design and Construction 1 and 2, Digital Methods in Architecture, Construction Management and Planning Law, as well as Building Physics and Building Construction)
- **Historical and Theoretical Foundations** (History of Architecture and Art, History of Construction, Conservation of Historic Buildings, as well as Architectural Theory and Philosophy of Technology)
- **Architectural Research**

## Selection Procedure
A total of 625 study places are available for the Bachelor's Programme in Architecture. Admission is granted through a two-stage selection process. The programme normally begins in the winter semester, although it is also possible to start in the summer semester. If you pass the [selection procedure](https://www.tuwien.at/en/studies/studies/bachelor-programmes/architecture/admission-procedure), you can complete your enrolment by the end of the [general admission period](https://www.tuwien.at/en/studies/admission/academic-calendar) for the winter or summer semester. You must submit the required documents and fulfil all other admission requirements. Enrolment is done by the [Admission Office](https://www.tuwien.at/en/tu-wien/organisation/central-divisions/admission-office). ### Which skills are needed for academic success?
Studying Architecture requires a strong interest in spatial thinking, design-related questions, and conceptual work. No specific prior knowledge is required. However, creativity, analytical thinking, and strong spatial awareness are highly beneficial. Equally important are the ability to work in a team, communicate ideas effectively, and engage with complex social, technical, and cultural contexts. Above all, a willingness to commit to an intensive, interdisciplinary learning process is essential.
### What can I do with my degree?
After completing your degree, a wide range of career opportunities will be open to you. These include working in architecture and planning offices, in public administration, in construction and planning departments of companies, in project development and consulting, as well as in teaching and research at universities, universities of applied sciences, and higher technical colleges. In addition, you may pursue careers in product development within the construction industry, architectural informatics, architectural publishing, or in new design disciplines emerging within the context of the information society.
The professional field of architects encompasses not only creative design but also technical planning, project management, cost and schedule management, and coordination with public authorities, specialist planners, and clients. If you wish to work as a licensed architect, you must complete a Master's degree after the Bachelor's programme and fulfil the national requirements set by the Chamber of Civil Engineers.
According to the collective agreement, a Bachelor's degree qualifies you for Employment Group 3, which is remunerated at €2,646.00 gross per month in the first year (as of January 2025).
