On September 20, 2024, the Shankar Center of Excellence for Diabetes Research (SCoEDR) was inaugurated at the Department of Medical Sciences and Technology, IIT Madras in collaboration with Emory University, Georgia. The Center is funded by Mr. Subramonian Shankar, CEO and Founder, AmZetta Technologies, LLC.

Event Overview:

The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Chris Hodges, U.S. Consul General, Chennai. Representatives from Emory University graced the event along with Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, faculty members of the department, and students. Key highlights of the event included:

Key objectives of the Shankar Center of Excellence for Diabetes Research (SCoEDR):

  1. Addressing the High Prevalence of Diabetes: The center will investigate the socio-economic, dietary, and genetic factors contributing to India’s high rate of diabetes. The goal is to develop prevention and management strategies that cater to the specific needs of the population.
  2. Innovating in Treatment and Management: Through research and collaborations, the center aims to develop effective and culturally relevant diabetes treatments. It also plans to bring these innovations to market, making them accessible and impactful.
  3. Contributing to Global Diabetes Research: While focusing on India’s challenges, the center will also contribute to global diabetes research by sharing insights and findings that could benefit the international community.

The Shankar Center of Excellence for Diabetes Research is set to advance the understanding and treatment of diabetes, enhancing both local and global efforts in diabetes management.
