About the School
Founded in 2024, the School brings together several faculty with expertise in various areas of Data Science and AI, to work together on impactful problems of direct relevance to society. The school is home to the 18th and newest department (Department of Data Science and AI) at IIT Madras, has several affiliated research centres, and a vibrant research ecosystem, with several interest groups focused on exciting areas.
The school offers a BTech in AI & Data Analytics, an MTech in Data Science and AI, and also multiple programmes for international students.

Bodhan AI launched: India's push towards an AI-powered education ecosystem
Bodhan AI was launched as a Centre of Excellence to power the Bharat EduAI Stack, a national public AI infrastructure for multilingual, interoperable, and equitable education delivery.
WSAI partners with Lloyds Tech for AI, ML research
Under this initiative, engineers from Lloyds Technology Centre will undergo specialised training in fields including Advanced Data Engineering and AI/ML through certified programmes offered by WSAI.
Inclusive governance framework booms at IIT-M's AI conclave
The conclave, an official Pre-Summit event of the India-AI Impact Summit 2026, witnessed the launch of several path-breaking initiatives, including a study titled The Algorithmic–Human Manager: AI, Apps, and Workers in the Indian Gig Economy

Message from the Head
The School will enable close collaboration between domain experts and AI researchers to enable solutions that integrate AI with existing domain knowledge and approaches. Our degree programs will nurture students to primarily think of interdisciplinary design and data-driven problem-solving.
Overall, our vision is to create an environment for globally competitive research and teaching, and ultimately place the school amongst the top centres in the world for research in three key areas, with special emphasis on AI for Healthcare, in the Indian context.
