Paper Presentation

During the last 2-3 weeks of the course, we will have presentations by each student on a research paper of his/her choice. Please plan for a 10 minute presentation, followed by a few minutes (<5 min. total) of questions. Do not interrupt the speaker; save all your questions for the question period at the end of the presentation. We should have a minimum of three presentations per class. The students in the audience will also grade each presentation, and this will be one component of the overall points awarded. You will also be evaluated by me on the quality of your slides and delivery. Some general guidelines:\ \ 1) A picture is worth a thousand words.\ 2) Do not clutter a single slide with excessive text/pictures.\ 3) Do not use more than 6 lines of text per slide. Use a large font size.\ 5) Get your main points across without putting complete sentences on your slides.\ 6) Do not directly read from your slides.\ 7) Expect to spend at least a minute per slide, on the average.\ 8) Have an outline slide at the beginning that gives a synopsis of your talk.\ \ The papers should be chosen from the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits (also called JSSC or "red rag") or the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (also called ISSCC - the conference home page is located here). It is recommended that you choose a paper that describes the implementation of a complete RF system (transmitter or receiver). This will allow you to present all aspects of the work, including systems, circuits etc. Get your choice of paper okayed by me before starting off on your review to ensure that it is appropriate for this course. If you are not able to pick any, I will give you some suggestions. A thorough review of the paper is expected, and your presentation should include the following:\ \ 1) Application and Motivation\ 2) Choice of RF System Architecture\ 3) Details of Frequency Planning\ 4) Topology and operation of circuits\ 5) Measurement Results\ 6) Comparison with other state-of-the-art implementations\ 7) Summary of innovations/contributions of the work\ \
