Personal profile

Research Interests

Since joining the University in 2006 my teaching has largely been in the subject areas of historical and political sociology.

My research interests centre on conflict and conflict transformation. I am particularly interested in the factors that help to generate conflict. My current research explores how long-term processes of “Othering” helps to generate communal tensions and an exploration of how history is used, alongside contemporary grievances, to maintain social divisions.

Related to this I am interested in processes of identity formation – particularly in national identities and nationalism.
