Personal profile
Research Focus
My research focus is on uncovering and developing nutritional strategies to improve nutrient use efficiency and animal performance, while simultaneously reducing the greenhouse gases emissions from ruminants. Main research areas of interest are the investigation of the mechanisms by which bioactive compounds (i.e tannins) i) contribute to better protein use efficiency ii) improve animal product quality characteristics and iii) reduce environmental impact (greenhouse gases and ammonia). In vitro (i.e. in vitro gas production), in situ, and in vivo approaches, as well as different spectroscopy techniques (FTIR, NIR, SRFTIRM) are used in my research program to optimize ruminant nutrition and study nutrient molecular structure, ruminal fermentation, and digestion. Current projects are focused on the evaluation of alternative feed sources for livestock (insects, algae, trees). Overall, my research goal is to identify technologies and nutritional practices to improve the sustainability and productivity of ruminant production system
