Program Description

The M.Sc. Management and Engineering in Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering (M.Sc. MME-CAME) is an interdisciplinary program conducted by the Institute of General Mechanics and RWTH School of Business and Economics. Combining sound mechanical engineering fundamentals such as the finite element method, numerical methods and simulation with essential business management processes, students will learn to connect technological questions with a business perspective. This unique program is designed to equip students with the knowledge to develop and apply computer-aided modeling and simulation techniques in advanced manufacturing processes, design and control increasingly digitally networked production systems while cultivating system-analytical thinking in quality management tasks.

Degree Content

The M.Sc. MME-CAME is a full-time study program on campus in Aachen, leading to a M.Sc. degree to be awarded from RWTH Aachen University. The program is designed to broaden and increase the knowledge and practical use of computer-aided simulation techniques in mechanical engineering with a focus on the development and application of computer-aided methods and systems at all stages of product development. With the start of the 2nd semester students can choose between two study tracks:

  1. Modelling and Simulation Engineering
  2. Digital Engineering

Prerequisites

A prerequisite for starting this course of studies is a first university degree which proves the necessary background education as determined in the examination regulations. Furthermore, a GRE certificate with the min. scores of 145 VR, 160 QR, 3 AW as well as practical work experience of at least 6 months are mandatory admission requirements. Graduates of the master’s qualification program German Engineering College (GEC), offered by RWTH International Academy do not need to submit a GRE certificate with their application. The examination board determines whether the applicant fulfills the entrance requirements.

Career Prospects

With the M.Sc. MME-CAME program graduates will gain the skill set and competencies to work at the intersection of digitalization, technology and business administration, trained to understand both the art of management and complex engineering. Graduates thus become project engineers with a strong engineering, science and technical background who can also demonstrate an understanding of key management processes and a prepared to move into advanced engineering positions as well as business leadership roles. Those can be in traditional manufacturing companies, in consulting firms, in financial institutions or in the automotive industry, in logistics companies or the energy industry. After being awarded the RWTH Aachen University Master's Degree, graduates will be qualified for doctoral studies as well.

Subject-Specific Examination Regulations regulate academic goals, the course of study layout, and exam procedures. The appendix to the regulations contains a description of the modules, from which the course of study is composed.

Some regulations have been translated or are currently being translated into English. Please note, however, that examination regulations are officially published in German and this is the only legally binding version!

Faculty

The M.Sc. MME-CAME is a highly interdisciplinary program led by one of the oldest institutes at RWTH Aachen University, the Institute of General Mechanics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The management modules are conducted by the RWTH School of Business and Economics at RWTH Aachen University.
