Online Applications

Applications for the 2025/26 winter semester open May 2, 2025.

RWTHonline Selfservice lets you see the current status of your application, including information about any missing documents. If you are applying for a restricted-admission course of study, we recommend checking the status of your application before the application deadline – July 15, 2025 – to ensure that no documents are missing and that you can be included in the allocation process.

The International Office will only inform you that documents are missing via Selfservice. It is your own responsibility to regularly check your application status.

RWTH-Online

There are different processes for applying for a university placement in a basic course of study, that is, a course leading to a first university degree, such as a Bachelor's or a Staatsexamen program.

An important difference exists between restricted admission (NC) and open admission subjects. Restricted admission subjects are those courses of study that have an exclusion grade, the so called numerus clausus or NC.

In NC subjects there are less spots available than there applications. For this reason, not even applicants who fulfill all the general requirements can be guaranteed admission.

In open admission subjects, there are sufficient spots for all suitable applicants. A rejection is only given if an application does not fulfill the formal or educational criteria.

Application Process and German Course

On these linked pages, we explain the application process for the first semester of restricted admission and open admission Bachelor’s and Staatsexamen courses of study and let you know what you need to be aware of when applying to a higher semester.

If you are interested in completing a preparatory German course before beginning your studies, please note the information about applying to the preparatory German course at RWTH Aachen University.
