# Intercultural Empowerment for Students

RWTH Aachen University is an international place of learning, research, and work. In such a diverse environment, intercultural skills are essential. This means that we all need the ability to communicate and work respectfully and thoughtfully with people from different cultures.

Intercultural Empowerment at RWTH enables students to navigate intercultural contexts with confidence and self-awareness. The aim is not only to understand cultural differences, but also to reflect on one's own cultural background and to raise awareness of cultural dos and don'ts. Our ultimate objective is to strengthen intercultural skills in everyday student life.

RWTH supports this development through targeted workshops and programs, including the [Certificate International](https://www.rwth-aachen.de/go/id/bqxh/lidx/1). We especially recommend the training courses for prospective buddies in the [BeBuddy Project](https://www.rwth-aachen.de/go/id/bpei/lidx/1).

Internationally-minded students can also apply for the [DAAD scholarship for particularly involved international students](https://www.rwth-aachen.de/go/id/bdlg/lidx/1). In addition, every year at RWTH Aachen University, an international student is awarded the [DAAD Prize](https://www.rwth-aachen.de/go/id/jvrhx/lidx/1). The award winners are known not only for their great academic achievements, but also for their awesome social and intercultural commitment.

## Intercultural Empowerment Workshop

### Wednesday, April 22, 2026, 10am to 1:30pm

This workshop, conducted entirely in German, is open to all undergraduate and graduate students across RWTH faculties. Participants will critically examine concepts of culture and identity, while exploring cultural models as tools for analyzing differences. To bridge theory and practice, the session utilizes real-world examples of intercultural conflict resolution, allowing you to apply your newly acquired insights in an interactive setting.

## Understanding the German University System – Intercultural Workshop for International First-Semester Students

The training sessions in English are aimed at international students who are new to RWTH Aachen University. They aim to help students to reflect on their experiences and expectations since arriving and to strengthen their intercultural skills in dealing with German university life and everyday life.

The [Certificate International](https://www.rwth-aachen.de/go/id/bqxh/lidx/1) clearly summarizes the interdisciplinary skills with an international focus that you have acquired during your studies. This allows you to present your intercultural commitment convincingly at a glance and in a single, meaningful document.

This saves you the trouble of collecting individual pieces of evidence for your application documents and at the same time allows you to showcase your international profile in an official document.

German courses for international students are also offered.
