Photonics: Materials and Components
This technological specialization is aimed at students with interrests in constructing and characterizing photonic materials and components. The program provides access to the world-class cleanroom facilities at DTU Nanolab, where students are allowed to process components. The courses suggested in this focus area cover the understanding of the physics, materials, process technologies and experience in required lab. skills in order to construct and characterize micro and nanophotonic materials and components. Examples include materials and components for all parts of optical communication systems, for illumination, lighting, laser and other quantum-photonic systems, and for optical sensors and biooptical applications.
The following programme specific course is mandatory for this technological specialization:
| 10855 | Advanced fabrication of micro- and nanostructures | 10 | point | Autumn E2 (Mon 13-17, Thurs 8-12) and Autumn E5 (Wed 8-17) |
| 34062 | Photonic integrated circuits | 10 | point | Spring F3 (Tues 8-12, Fri 13-17) |
\
Then, the student has to pick at least 10ECTS amount the following programme specific courses list below:
| 10380 | Quantum Optics | 10 | point | Spring F4 (Tues 13-17, Fri 8-12) |
| 34032 | Optical properties of solids | 5 | point | Autumn E1B (Thurs 13-17) |
| 34041 | Waveguide optics | 5 | point | Spring F4B (Fri 8-12) |
| 34051 | Nanophotonics | 10 | point | Spring F1 (Mon 8-12, Thurs 13-17) |
| 34052 | Nonlinear optics | 10 | point | Autumn E3 (Tues 8-12, Fri 13-17) |
| 34053 | Numerical methods in photonics | 5 | point | Spring F2A (Mon 13-17) |
| 34060 | Ultrafast optics: fundamentals and applications | 5 | point | Spring F4A (Tues 13-17) |
| 34130 | Fundamentals of fibre-optic communication systems | 10 | point | Autumn E4 (Tues 13-17, Fri 8-12) |

Specializations are merely recommended ways of choosing the courses in the curriculum. Applicants are not admitted to a specialization but to the programme and it is possible to choose among all the courses in the curriculum following the directions given. However, if a specialization has been fulfilled the title of the specialization may be added to the diploma.
