Applying for an MSc at DTU

All applicants applying for admission to English-taught MSc programmes are legally required to provide documentation of English language proficiency comparable with English B-level from Danish upper-secondary school, as per Ministerial Order no 1648 of 16 December 2025 (BEK nr. 228 af 17/02/2026), paragraph 48.
DTU accepts the following English language proficiency documentation.\
DTU General Engineering students are exempted from taking a language test\
English language tests
Most applicants to DTU document their English language proficiency by providing an English language test. DTU accepts applicants with the following tests and minimum scores. All English tests are verified online by DTU.

English language test requirements

You must upload the official score sheet to your application. Please note, DTU does not receive physical or digital tests from the test providers. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that an official score sheet is provided by the deadline.
DTU will not make any exceptions to the minimum test scores. If conditionally admitted students cannot meet them, DTU will not be able to enrol them.
Please note, TOEFL iBT and IELTS Academic are valid for 2 years.
* Only IELTS Academic tests are accepted. DTU does not accept IELTS One Skill Retake.
** DTU does not accept “My Best Scores”.
Upper-secondary school from Denmark, Duborg Skolen, or A.P. Møller Skolen
- English B-level – passed (minimum grade of 02)
- English A-level – passed (minimum grade of 02)
You must upload your upper-secondary school certificate to your application.
Upper-secondary school from the Nordic countries
Applicants with an upper-secondary school certificate from the Nordics (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland) may fulfill the English language requirements if their English courses are comparable with English B-level.
Please refer to this table to check whether your English language courses are comparable.
You must upload your upper-secondary school diploma in the original language to your application.

International Baccalaureate (IB)
Applicants with an IB diploma may fulfill the English language requirements if their English courses are comparable with English B-level. You must have passed the courses with a minimum grade of 3.
The following IB courses are accepted:
- English B, standard level (SL)
- English A1, A2 or B, higher level (HL)
- English A1 or A2 standard level (SL)
- English A Literature or English A Language and Literature, higher level (HL)
- English A Literature or English A Language and Literature, standard level (SL)

European Baccalaureate (EB)
Applicants with an EB diploma may fulfill the English language requirements if their English courses are comparable with English B-level. You must have passed the courses with a minimum grade of 50.00 (from 2021) or 60.00 (before 2021).
The following EB courses are accepted:
- English level I (L I)
- English level II (L II)
- English level III (L III)
- English level IV (L IV)
