Chemical and Biochemical Process Technology
Specialization: Chemical and Biochemical Process Technology
Process technology within chemical and biochemical engineering is a direction, students with interest in design, modeling operation and analysis of process equipment and production system can choose to specialise in. It naturally includes a strong emphasis on the mathematical description of process systems and their components, based on fundamental knowledge of natural sciences, biotechnology, and chemical engineering, provides a synthesis of chemical and biochemical aspects of processing. Through course choices, focused curricula of e.g., reaction engineering, process control or bioprocess technology may be constructed.

Electives, i.e., courses not counting as the polytechnic foundation or programme specific courses in MSc Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, allow a study plan within chemical and biochemical process technology to be broadened in scope. This can be done either by choosing additional programme specific courses with product, energy, or environment engineering content, or by choosing courses giving a deeper insight in advanced mathematics, chemistry, physics, management, and adjoining technological areas.
A few examples of electives are listed below in connection with the study plan examples.
| 02409 | Multivariate Statistics | 5 | point | Autumn E1A (Mon 8-12) |

Examples of study plans
Two examples are shown: one for students beginning their MSc study in September, and one for students beginning their MSc study in February.
The study plans are examples only. Students are free to exchange the shown courses with other courses if the general requirements for the curriculum in chemical and biochemical engineering and the specialisation is satisfied. The proposed plans fulfil requirements of the curriculum in terms of the polytechnic foundation, programme specific coursed and thesis but do not fill all 120 ECTS. A few programme specific courses in excess of the required 50 ECTS are here included and these will count as electives.

Specializations are merely recommended ways of choosing the courses in the curriculum. Applicants are not admitted to a specialization but to the programme and it is possible to choose among all the courses in the curriculum following the directions given. However, if a specialization has been fulfilled the title of the specialization may be added to the diploma.
