Shaw STEAMS for GOOD

Background of Co-organiser

Founded in 2012, Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation (DISI) is the first design institute dedicated to social innovation in Asia. DISI contributes to advance PolyU’s University Social Responsibility and aims to become a leading institute to trigger social innovation in all dimensions of the society to improve the well-being of the community and the people. The mission of DISI is to provide an innovative and human-centred platform to ENVISION a better life in the society, to CONNECT people with passion and NURTURE doers of all ages to INNOVATE with collective wisdom to ENABLE impactful action.

Objective

The programme aims to nurture students to integrate knowledge from different subjects through solving real-world problems, especially since STEAM adds a social perspective (STEAMS). It aims to infuse social innovation and design thinking into senior primary school and junior secondary school steam education.

To facilitate students’ learning, a train-the-trainers programme will be implemented to develop pre- and in-service teachers’ required skills for conducting design workshops for education.
