HKU has a wide range of **expertise** for collaborative and contract research, which can be searched through the institutional repository of the University – [The HKU Scholars Hub](http://hub.hku.hk "This link will pop up in a new window").

HKU’s **international network** is enhanced through active participation in such bodies as Universitas 21 and the Association of Pacific Universities, and such initiatives as the [Visiting Professors Scheme](https://www.rss.hku.hk/honours-awards/vps "This link will pop up in a new window") and [joint doctorate programmes](https://gradsch.hku.hk/prospective_students/programmes/joint_programmes "This link will pop up in a new window"). Ten major laboratories in collaboration with institutions in the Chinese Mainland are based at HKU, including five [State Key Laboratories](/research/state-key-labs-cas-hku-joint-labs.html) – a key component in China’s science and technology research – and five [Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)-HKU Joint Laboratories](/research/state-key-labs-cas-hku-joint-labs.html). The University has set up the [HKU Shenzhen Institute of Research and Innovation (HKU-SIRI)](http://www.siri.hku.hk "This link will pop up in a new window") and the [Zhejiang Institute of Research and Innovation (HKU-ZIRI) in Lin'An](http://www.ziri.hku.hk/en/ "This link will pop up in a new window"), Hangzhou.
