Faculty Development Fund

Since its establishment as a Department of Law in 1969, HKU Law has become a key incubator for some of the most distinguished legal professionals and community leaders in Hong Kong. It is a pivotal research hub in different areas of law connecting with Mainland China and the Asia-Pacific Region; and we actively share our knowledge with the community.

We could not have made far without contribution of generations of teachers and alumni; support from the University, the legal profession and the community; and of course philanthropic contributions from our donors.

Since our founding in 2005, the Community Legal Information Centre (CLIC) has been steadfastly committed to delivering vital legal information to the community. We firmly believe that access to justice should be a universal right, not a privilege reserved for a select few. Therefore, our mission is to ensure that everyone, irrespective of their background or financial situation, has access to and understands the legal information necessary to protect their rights.

To make it easier for the public to search for our content, we have developed the CLIC Recommender. The new system is an artificial intelligence recommendation system designed to help users search for relevant legal information more effectively. The system analyses user input, whether it is a scenario or a question, and suggests CLIC pages based on the description, enabling users to quickly access the legal information they need.

For more than 20 years, HKLII has been providing free access to legal information in Hong Kong. Now all laws and regulations, judgments of courts and tribunals from as early as 1946 to the present day can be accessed online by the public.

HKLII now records nearly 2 million visits a year. The Team has been working hard to modernise the 20-year-old interface and add more functionalities. Join us in making legal information free and accessible!
