English Language Requirements for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes

Alongside meeting the academic entry requirements, all students must also meet the minimum English language entry requirements for their chosen programme in order to study at Queen Mary University of London.
The English language requirements for our programmes are indicated by English bands, and therefore the specific test and score acceptable is based on the band assigned to the academic department within which your chosen course of study is administered.
Below are our academic departments and the English bands assigned to them. Note that for some academic departments there are programmes with non-standard English language requirements.
Degree programmes that are jointly run by two academic departments will follow the English band requirements of the ‘Home’ department.
