Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions for international students.

**What should I expect from appointments and events?**

We run [tailored events for international students](https://www.qmul.ac.uk/careers/events/upcoming-events-/international-student-events/), to ensure you receive the right support. We often repeat workshops throughout the year, so you don't miss the important information. **What should I do if I am unable to attend?**

You must cancel if you can’t attend-  this is very important as appointments book up quickly and we don’t want other students to miss out on an available slot – **it is also considered very unprofessional in UK culture to not attend or be late without cancelling**. You can cancel online in advance of your slot or by emailing [careers@qmul.ac.uk](mailto:careers@qmul.ac.uk).

**I’ve just started my studies here at QMUL. How do I adjust to life in the UK?**

**How can I ensure my English meets the standards for employer networking events or interviews?**

[The In-Sessional Programmes here](https://www.qmul.ac.uk/sllf/language-centre/in-sessionals/) will help you develop your professional communication skills. We recommend you invest time in this from the very beginning of your course to ensure you are best prepared when the time comes. We would also encourage you to [join societies](https://www.qmsu.org/clubs-socs/find/) and improve your conversational English, which will increase your confidence in speaking freely. Societies are also a great way to make like-minded friends, learn a new skill that employers value, and add to your employability.
