Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly developing field that is having a profound impact on various aspects of society and business. This programme will consider the legal, technological, and ethical issues surrounding AI and analyse emerging laws and policy across the globe.

## What you'll study

The AI and the Law LLM will give you an understanding of the technological, ethical and legal issues raised by the use of AI technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs), Chat GPT, robotics and predictive systems in a variety of sectors.

You will study the developing regulatory approaches across the globe and the policy factors influencing these approaches to regulation. This programme will give you the ability to analyse the emerging laws and critically assess their impact on society and industries such as recruitment, law enforcement, dispute resolution, legal practice, financial services, employment, medical, arts, and production of content.

You will consider the legal implications in a range of areas including intellectual property, competition law, finance, dispute resolution, national security and tax.

You will have voluntary access to an excellent series of lectures in [Critical Thinking and Writing in Law](https://www.qmul.ac.uk/law/postgraduate/programmes/critical-thinking-writing/) to help you to improve your writing and research in law skills.

### Structure

You will complete 180 credits:

- 90 credits of compulsory modules, including a 30 credit dissertation
- 60 credits from a choice of electives
- 30 credits free choice from our LLM programme

### Assessment

- You will be assessed by a range of methods combining examinations and coursework which will be fully explained in your student pack available during induction.
- For your dissertation, you will undertake self-directed research and writing with the support of an allocated supervisor.

## Teaching

You will be taught by a mixture of formal lectures and small group seminars. The seminars are designed to generate informed discussion around set topics and may involve student presentations and group exercises as well as open discussion.

You will have a team of advisers to support you, including the LLM and Programme Academic Directors, your module convenors and, for an elective dissertation, your dissertation supervisor.

### Dr Vasiliki Koukoulioti

Lecturer in Tax Law

Dr Koukoulioti is Lecturer in Tax Law and teaches Tax and Technology, International Tax Law and Transfer Pricing at the Center for Commercial Law Studies. Her main research interests are in the areas of tax law and technology, international tax law and tax policy. She wrote her PhD thesis on the application of the benefit principle in a globalised economy. She is a Greek qualified lawyer and has practiced tax law for several years.

Dr Guan H. Tang is Senior Lecturer in Commercial Law in Asia and Director of Dual LLM in Commercial Law (London/Singapore) at CCLS. This area is home to numerous barristers’ chambers and law firms and is a short walk from the Royal Courts of Justice. ## Entry requirements

### UK

#### Degree requirements

A 2:1 or above at undergraduate level 
in Law or a degree with substantial law content. Other related degrees may be accepted.

Law graduates with a 2:2 honours degree who also have other legal qualifications and/or substantial professional legal experience may also qualify.

#### Other routes

Non-law graduates with a minimum second class honours degree, that have also obtained a Merit (or 60 per cent) in the Common Professional Examination (CPE) or Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) recognised by the UK professional bodies, may also qualify. Non-law graduates may also be considered on the basis of exceptional professional experience (of at least five years) in a legal area or an area directly related to their programme of study.

**Uruguay**\
We normally consider the following qualifications for entry to our postgraduate taught programmes: Titulo de Licenciado/ Titulo de [subject area] (minimum 4 years) from a recognised institution.\

**UK 2:1 degree:** 7 to 9 out of 12\

**Venezuela**\
We normally consider the following qualifications for entry to our postgraduate taught programmes: Titulo de Licenciado/ Titulo de [subject area] from a recognised institution.\

**UK 1st class degree:** 81%\
**UK 2:1 degree:** 71%\
**UK 2:2 degree:** 61%

Non-percentage grading scales, for example scales out of 20, 10, 9 or 5, will have different requirements.

**Vietnam**\
We normally consider the following qualifications for entry to our postgraduate taught programmes: Bachelor Degree from a recognised institution.\

**UK 1st class degree:** 8.0 out of 10; or GPA 3.4 out of 4\
**UK 2:1 degree:** 7.0 out of 10; or GPA 3.0 out of 4\
**UK 2:2 degree:** 5.7 out of 10; or GPA 2.4 out of 4

**Yemen**\
We normally consider the following qualifications for entry to our postgraduate taught programmes: Masters (Majister) degree from a recognised institution.\

**UK 1st class degree:** 90%\

**Zambia**\
We normally consider the following qualifications for entry to our postgraduate taught programmes: Masters Degree from a recognised institution.\

**UK 1st class degree:** 75%; or GPA 3.7 out of 4.0\
**UK 2:1 degree:** 65%; or GPA 3.0 out of 4.0\
**UK 2:2 degree:** 55%; or GPA 2.4 out of 4.0

**Zimbabwe**\
We normally consider the following qualifications for entry to our postgraduate taught programmes: Bachelor Degree (minimum 4 years) or Bachelor Honours degree from a recognised institution.\
\
**UK 1st class degree:** 75%\
**UK 2:1 degree:** 65%\
**UK 2:2 degree:** 60%

### English language requirements

The English language requirements for our programmes are normally indicated by an English band assigned to the academic department within which your chosen course of study is administered. However, all programmes in this school have non-standard English language requirements.\

The English Language requirements for entry to postgraduate taught programmes in this School is the following:\

IELTS (Academic) minimum score 7.0 overall with 6.5 in Writing and 6.0 in Listening, Reading and Speaking\
