Thinking of transferring from another university to Queen Mary?  This page gives you an overview of our expected requirements, what you will need to provide and how to make an application.

In some cases, we are able to consider transfer applications if you have completed part of your university studies elsewhere.  Depending on the course you wish to apply to, it may be possible to join undergraduate degree programmes at:

It is not possible to transfer to the final year of any degree programme.

How to apply

Applications for advanced entry are made through UCAS.  You then choose the appropriate 'point of entry' whilst making your application e.g. for second year entry you would choose point of entry 2.

For further information, please see our How to Apply page.

Things to consider before applying

Things to consider

There is a lot to consider before transferring to another university.  We encourage you to speak to your current university about the reasons you wish to transfer as they may be able to help or offer advice.

If you do decide to change institutions, this can affect your:

Further information can be found in our Student Transfer Policy.

We also recommend reading UCAS guidance on 'changing or leaving your course'.

Entry requirements

We normally expect

  1. you have previously met our first year entry requirements for the programme you wish to transfer to with your achieved A-Level grades (or other equivalent Level 3 qualifications)
  2. you have achieved or are on track to achieve a 2.1 in your current degree course
  3. your current degree syllabus is similar to the syllabus offered at Queen Mary (our academic selectors will assess this by reviewing the modules you are taking)

Queen Mary recognises there are individual circumstances where a student may wish to transfer from one University to another or one programme or mode of study to another, such as choosing to study nearer their home because of serious illness affecting them or a close member of their family. If you have any questions please contact Undergraduate Admissions to discuss.

We may also consider applications for advanced entry on the basis of post-A-Level qualifications, such as the BTEC HND.  For this type of advanced entry application, you will need to apply through UCAS and choose the appropriate point of entry.  We may request a transcript that details the modules you are taking and grades you may have achieved if necessary.

What you will need to provide

  1. evidence of all your achieved qualifications (Level 3 and university level)
  2. evidence of your current university studies (if not completed, we still need to see the modules you are taking and any achieved grades e.g. an interim transcript)
  3. an academic reference from your current university

Will my application be considered?
