Source: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/postgraduate/taught/tuitionfees/deposits/ Parent: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/international-students/tuitionfees/

All international direct applicants (Foundation, Pre-Masters and Postgraduate programmes) will be required to pay a non-refundable tuition fee deposit to obtain a CAS to apply for their student visa. Some postgraduate taught programmes require a deposit at conditional stage in order to secure your place. This applies to both Home and International applicants. Further details on the Conditional Deposit Scheme can be found below.

Your offer communication will provide details about accepting your offer and paying the deposit. The conditional deposit is not required for programmes beginning in January. You can find further information about the conditional deposit scheme in the FAQs.

For September 2026 entry, the deadline to pay your conditional deposit can be found below:

Offers made by Deadline

Unconditional Deposit Scheme

If the Tuition Fee Calculator advises that you will need to pay a unconditional deposit, this means that if you receive a unconditional offer (or when you have met the conditions of your conditional offer), you will be invited to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure your place. Your offer communication will provide details about accepting your offer and paying the deposit.

Please note all overseas students who require a student route visa must pay a £2000 deposit in order to receive their Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).

Applicants will be encouraged to pay their deposit within 6 weeks of their offer. Please be aware that not paying the deposit may affect your ability to receive a CAS or your ability to complete enrolment.

Refunds for tuition fee deposits

The fee deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable. Please refer to the University Fee Regulations for more information.

University Fee Regulations

By accepting an offer of a place or enrolling on a programme, students agree to the terms of the University Fee Regulations. Details of the terms regarding fee deposits can be found in the University Fee Regulations, including special circumstances when a deposit may be refunded.

  2. Select "Make a payment"

For details to pay by direct bank transfer, please visit our payment methods webpage.

My fees will be paid by a sponsor or I am receiving a scholarship. Do I need to pay a deposit?

If you are in receipt of a scholarship or your fees will be paid by a sponsor, you may be exempt from the university fee deposit. We do however require a formal letter from your sponsor confirming the arrangement. Please upload evidence of your sponsorship/scholarship to the portal before the required deadline.

I will be funding my studies using a UK postgraduate loan. Do I need to pay a deposit?

If you are planning to fund your studies using a UK postgraduate loan, we may waive the deposit, as long as you provide us with evidence of the loan award.

I am a current Queen Mary student with an offer of admission to a postgraduate course at Queen Mary. Will I be required to pay the deposit?

Yes, all overseas students who require a student route visa will be required to pay a £2000 deposit to receive their confirmation of acceptance for studies(CAS).

Will this affect my CAS?

Students requiring an overseas visa will require a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number before they can apply for a Student visa. You must pay your deposit before the CAS process can begin.

Please note that after payment of your deposit, any subsequent payments of university fees will not be automatically reflected in the CAS. Further advance payments have to be manually updated on the CAS and as such you should allow up to ten days for this to happen. Please factor this in when applying for a visa appointment in your home country. If you are concerned that your CAS has not been updated with an advance payment made by either you or your financial sponsor, please email: CAS-Admissions@qmul.ac.uk, clearly stating your full name, applicant ID, programme you have applied for, amount paid and the date of payment. If you do wish to make an advance university fee payment we recommend you do this after you have secured your visa. A CAS cannot be updated once the status has changed to 'Used'.

Once you have received your CAS, we recommend that you read more about how to apply for student immigration permission by referring to the following pages of the Advice and Counselling website.

I have paid a fee deposit. Can I get a refund?

The fee deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Please refer to the University Fee Regulations for more information.
