Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (BSc)

Application procedure

Every student who wants to apply for the bachelor’s programme in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Leiden University will need to start at Studielink. The application procedure consists of three steps.

Step 1: Apply for a programme in Studielink

The application procedure starts in Studielink.  Studielink will be open for applications per 1 October.

After you have started the application process in Studielink you will receive confirmation per email. Within approximately 24 hours you will receive login details for the online application portal.

The online application portal will give you further instructions. Applicants who need to apply for admission will need to upload certain documents.

Step 2: Online application portal

If you need to apply for admission you must use the online application portal.

The portal provides an overview of what you have to do to complete your application. Please follow the instructions carefully. We strongly recommend that you complete your application as early as possible because the sooner you apply, the sooner you’ll receive a decision.

Pay the application fee (if applicable)

The application fee is €100. This fee is non-refundable and it entitles you to apply for up to three programmes/specialisations within the same academic year. The portal will let you know how you can pay this fee. Some students can be exempt from paying the fee. Details are available in the online application portal.\ \ Check other practical aspects

After submitting your application, the online portal will, if applicable, ask you if you want to apply for student housing or a scholarship. Make a careful note of the deadlines.

Follow your application status

There are three possible options.

  1. You are admitted\ All conditions have been fulfilled.
  2. You are conditionally admitted, in other words you will be admitted if you meet certain conditions.\ The conditions will be given in the decision letter.
  3. You are not admitted, because you do not meet the programme’s entry requirements.\ The reasons will be clearly stated in the decision letter.

If you are told that your application has been successful, congratulations! A number of additional steps now need to be taken.

Accept the offer

The Admissions Office will ask you to confirm your intention to start the programme. Please go to the online application portal. You have the following options:

  1. Accept
  2. Accept, but start later
  3. Decline

Step 3: Complete your registration in Studielink

To finalise your application, enter and/or confirm your payment details in Studielink and submit all the necessary documents before 1 September. Failure to do so means you won’t be allowed to study. If you have any questions about Studielink, go to the “I have a question” page.
