In general, students joining Leiden University via an exchange agreement do not need to pay tuition fees. For most other students, tuition fees do apply.

Find out whether you need to pay tuition fees and how you can make payment.

Do I need to pay tuition fees?

Exchange students

Are you a student at a partner university and will you join us for regular courses via an exchange agreement? If so, you will generally continue paying tuition fees to your home institution and do not need to pay tuition fees to Leiden University.

Study abroad agreement students

Are you a student at a partner university and will you join us via a study abroad (non-exchange) agreement? If so, tuition fees do apply. Ask your home university coordinator for full details.

Independent study abroad students

Is your home university not a partner of Leiden University and will you follow courses as an independent student? If so, tuition fees do apply.

Other types of Erasmus+ activity

Are you coming to Leiden University for an Erasmus+ internship, research project or other type of placement? If so, tuition fees generally do not apply.

Summer schools and language courses

Tuition fees always apply if you want to follow a summer school or a language course at Leiden University Academic Language Centre.
