Political Science: National and International Politics is a broad study with a lot of depth. You will study political issues at the local, national and international levels, from a variety of perspectives. You will be taught by renowned, committed professors. In Leiden you will find a real student city with plenty of opportunities to develop and relax.

What if the world changes?
The world is in a state of flux. States and governments are no longer the only players on the world stage; the European Union is no longer self-evident; the US, China and Russia seem to be going their own way more and more. We are becoming increasingly mobile and, at the same time, seeing countries guarding their borders more tightly. Closer to home, election results and government formations seem to be becoming less and less predictable. New media and inventions in the field of AI are radically changing the way we do things, but finding solutions to conflicts between population groups remains difficult. Every day we read about beliefs clashing and wonder why it is so difficult to reconcile different interests and beliefs, come up with an answer to poverty and climate change.
Asking the right questions
It is up to all of us to respond to these developments. To ask the right questions and seek appropriate answers to challenges that you too want to know the ins and outs of. Because you are involved; because you look further and dig deeper; because you want to broaden your view. That is why you choose to study Politicologie: Nationale en Internationale Politiek at Leiden University.

As a Political Science student, you will be taught by inspiring professors. They are well-known researchers in their field, who are happy to share their fascination and expertise with you. Lecturers teach from their research experience and discuss with you the latest knowledge, ideas and questions.

Ik vind het internationale aspect van de opleiding interessant.
Ik wist toen ik mijn studiekeuze ging maken nog helemaal niet wat ik later wilde doen. Ik was geïnteresseerd in geschiedenis, filosofie en maatschappijwetenschappen en ben opzoek gegaan naar iets dat daarop aansloot. Het leuke aan de opleiding Politicologie in Leiden vond ik dat je zelf een eigen draai kon geven aan de opleiding en dat het zo breed is, waardoor je nog veel mogelijkheden hebt na je opleiding. Ik heb ervoor gekozen om mijn opleiding een internationale draai te geven, aangezien ik meer geïnteresseerd ben in oorlogen en ontwikkelingsvraagstukken dan in de Nederlandse politiek.

In de dagelijkse Haagse hectiek komt de analytische blik die ik in mijn studie opdeed regelmatig van pas.
Ik werk als persvoorlichter voor de staatssecretaris van Infrastructuur en Milieu; die heeft een brede portefeuille, van OV tot klimaatkwesties. En écht waar: in de dagelijkse Haagse hectiek komt de analytische blik die ik in mijn studie opdeed regelmatig van pas. Ook de kennis over politieke communicatie blijkt nu van grote waarde. Net als mijn minor Journalistiek & Nieuwe Media en de stage bij Het Parool. Ik raad iedereen dan ook aan om naast de studie de nodige praktijkervaring op te doen.
