# Allowance for tuition costs

**Source**: https://www.ugent.be/en/facilities/social-services/allowance-interest-free-loan

The Social Services may grant study financing to support you with study-related costs such as tuition fees and books.\
For students living in student housing, housing costs are also included in the calculation of total study expenses.\
We provide study financing as an integrated form of support — there is no separate housing allowance or rent reduction.

Submit your application to find out what kind of support you may be eligible for.

## Submitting your application

- Apply for your student financing after your (re)registration as a Ghent student.
- Application periode: 01/09/2025 - 02/06/2026.
- Submit your application via 'the Social Services student portal'.
- Allow approximately one month for your application to be processed.

## Determing student financing

We determine your entitlement to student finance based on your specific situation (study expenses, family situation, study allowance, household income...).\
If your own resources are insufficient to cover your study costs, a financial allowance may be granted.
