How to submit an application for admission?

Carefully read the information here-below prior to starting the online application.

Make sure that you have a pdf-version of the required documents you will need to upload. You will need to upload your diploma and your transcripts.

Your complete online application, including a verified degree, should be received by the Registrar's Office before the deadline.

By completing the online application, you confirm that you have read, understood and accept the admission requirements.

This procedure is not applicable to PhD applicants. The application procedure is always started up by the PhD supervisor. Go to Doctoral Research for further information

Before starting the online application, please read the below information first

Take into account that there is a deadline. Before the deadline, you are required to submit the application package **
You can apply for a specific academic year. You cannot apply for a semester
You are required to upload your diploma and transcripts (in .pdf format).
Applications are individual. A file number is assigned to each applicant
The processing of your application may take an average of 3 months after you have submitted your complete application package

Required documents

By the application deadline, Ghent University must receive complete application files. If any required documents are missing after the deadline, your file will not be considered.\ Your complete online application — including a verified academic degree — must reach the Registrar's Office before the deadline. \ \ Ghent University partners with Qualification Check, a global verification service, to authenticate academic degrees and documents. Applicants must use the following link to ensure that Ghent University receives your verification results: https://ghent.qualificationcheck.com

There is no application fee, but there may be fees for legalisation, language test, GRE, GMAT, ...
The list here-below is an overview. Depending on the programme that you are applying for and the origin of your diploma, you need to submit specific documents:
A verified copy of your basic diploma: detailed information is available on the degree verification page
A translation of these documents into Dutch, French, German or English, translated by a sworn translator
if you are applying for a bachelor programme:Your diploma is not on this list. You are required to prove that you have access to a university bachelor in your home country by submitting one of the following:
A confirmation that you have been accepted at a university in your home country, for example a letter of admission/acceptance
A certificate of enrolment from a university in your home country
Proof that you have passed the first year of a university bachelor + transcripts
An associate degree (or equivalent) with access to a university bachelor
A copy of your passport (for most applicants it must be the international passport, if you are from the EU, the local identity card can also be accepted)
The diploma supplement or equivalent: this is an overview of all courses taken, with the achieved outcome and the number of teaching periods. If no diploma supplement is issued by your university, you should add the official study programme (syllabus) describing the content of the subjects. If a webpage to the official course description is available, this may also be added. If the supplement was added in the educational background, you do not need to upload it a second time.
If you are a refugee: an original letter stating that you are a refugee
Proof of Dutch / English proficiency, depending on the programme that you are applying for. This document is to be submitted at the latest upon enrolment.
Enclose any documents that can add value to your application (certificates of programme-related courses, letter of motivation, ...).

Master application Faculty of Economics and Business Administration: GMAT or GRE (valid for max. 5 years after test date) is required for all non-EEA students (origin of the diploma, not the applicant's nationality) who apply for a programme at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. EEA students are strongly advised to add a GMAT or GRE test score to their application since the faculty will be granting 8 scholarships to students with outstanding scores on the GMAT or GRE test.

Master application Faculty of Engineering and Architecture:GRE (valid for max. 5 years after test date) is required for all non-EEA students (origin of the diploma, not the applicant's nationality) who apply for a programme at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture

Master application Faculty of Sciences: GRE (valid for max. 5 years after test date) is required for all non-EEA students (origin of the diploma, not the applicant's nationality) who apply for the Master of Science in Biology, Master of Science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Master of Science in Bioinformatics: Systems Biology, Master of Science in Bioinformatics: Engineering, Master of Science in Bioinformatics: Bioscience Engineering

Not yet graduated before the deadline?

You need to start the application procedure and you also need submit your application before the deadline. You do not need to wait until you graduate. Instead of the legalised diploma and final transcripts/diploma supplement, you are required to submit upon application:

an official declaration from your school/university confirming the expected graduation date and the exact name of the diploma that will be awarded
your most recent transcript

If your application was successful, you are accepted at Ghent University and you will receive a letter of admission. This letter will mention that you will be required to submit a legalised copy of your diploma upon enrolment.

You cannot enrol if you have not yet obtained the diploma on the basis of which you have been granted admission.

Letter of admission

When your application was successful, you will receive a letter of admission. This letter enables you to:

The letter of admission will state the following information:

Your details and file number (reference)
the programme that you were admitted to, and the faculty where the programme is organised
the date when the decision was made by the Faculty
the academic year in which you are admitted
information about enrolments

Deferred admission

It is possible that you have received a letter of admission, but that due to circumstances, you need to defer your admission (to the next academic year). You will need to make a new enrolment application for the same programme but for the new academic year. You will not need to resend your legalised documents (if these were correctly submitted already).

The request will be reviewed and when successful, you will receive a letter of admission for the new academic year
