# Prolongation of your stay as Exchange Student (student card)

## Steps
### 3 documents
If you want to prolong your stay at Ghent University as an **exchange student** you will need to present a:
- **Signed** letter or a proof of confirmation from your **home university** stating the period that you want to stay longer as an exchange student at Ghent University
- **Signed** letter or a proof of confirmation from your **professor/faculty administrator at Ghent University**stating the period that you want to stay longer as an exchange student at Ghent University
- Copy of your **health insurance** (European Health Insurance Card or other insurance) **valid** in Belgium for the entire period of the prolongation
### Further steps
- Send the 3 documents to the [FCI-administrator.](https://www.ugent.be/en/ghentuniv/mission/internationalisation/fci/overview.htm)
- After checking the forms, the FCI-administrator will change your file in the Ghent University databases. \
Your student card will be valid for the prolonged period from the next day onwards.
- The FCI-administrator will also send you a Letter of Prolongation. \
You can use this Letter to change your reservation in the Ghent University student residences**.**
## Learning agreement
If you need to **change your Learning Agreement** (See 'Changes to the Learning Agreement' on page 2 of the Learning Agreement for [Erasmus students](https://www.ugent.be/prospect/en/administration/application/application-exchange/laerasmusplus) and [other exchange students](https://www.ugent.be/prospect/en/administration/application/application-exchange/lastudiesnonerasmus)) contact the **[FCI-administrator](https://www.ugent.be/en/ghentuniv/mission/internationalisation/fci "Faculty Committees for Internationalisation") and your home university.**
## Housing
Prolongation of your room in the Ghent University student residences: contact the [Housing Office](mailto:accommodatie@ugent.be "E-mail Housing Office") personally. \
You will have to show them your student card and the Letter of Prolongation.
