## Steps to pay for college
### Complete your financial aid application
Completing the [FAFSA](https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa) (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or [California Dream Act Application](https://dream.csac.ca.gov/) is the gateway to most financial aid, including state and UC Davis aid. Students must submit their application each year by March 2 for priority consideration.
### Apply for scholarships
For new students, the [UC Application for Admission and Scholarships](http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/scholarships/campus/apply-prospective.html) serves as the application for campus-based scholarships.
The [Undergraduate and Prestigious Scholarships](http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/scholarships/) office provides resources on outside scholarships and helps students apply for campus and prestigious external scholarships.
### Pay by installments
You can pay registration and housing fees by installments through the [Deferred Payment Plan](http://afs.ucdavis.edu/our_services/student-accounting/fees-e-payments/my-bill/deferred-payment-plan.html). For a small fee, payments can be spread over a quarter or year.
## Consider additional resources
### Request aid for special purposes
Eligible students can receive [financial aid for special purposes](http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/types/index.html) such as Summer Sessions, study abroad, the UC Davis Washington Program, the University of California Center Sacramento and travel to international internships.
### California Chafee Grant for foster youth
For current or former foster youth, the [California Chafee Grant](https://chafee.csac.ca.gov/) provides funding for college courses.
### Aid for undocumented students
[Undocumented undergraduate students](http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/apply/undocumented.html) who qualify under AB 540 criteria may apply for most types of financial aid.
