MATH10230 is an introductory module in mathematics which is designed to complement the Agricultural Science programme. \ Topics covered include\ Introduction: numbers, arithmetic, exponents, sets, functions, trigonometry\ Calculus: more on functions, graphs, discontinuities, secants to tangents, slope and derivative, calculating the derivative of a polynomial, exponential function, inverse functions, log function\ Applications: velocity, acceleration, finding a maximum, graphs, linear approximation\ Integration: areas under a curve, anti-derivatives, fundamental theorem of calculus\ Prelude to Probability: Permutations and Combinations, Sample spaces, events, probability measure, equiprobability, examples

The successful student will be able to work confidently with the mathematical techniques of subsequent programme modules \ and be able to formulate scientific problems involving the rate of change of a process in terms of the mathematics of differential calculus
