At UCD, you will also have a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on clinical practice at one of our specialist partner hospitals, including St Vincent’s Healthcare Group (incorporating St Michael’s Hospital), the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, the National Maternity HospitalOur Lady’s Children’s Hospital and Saint John of God Hospital.

On successful completion of the programme, students will receive their UCD degree and be eligible for registration with the professional body, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

Please note: Applicants who have previously failed to meet programme requirements in any Nursing or Midwifery programme or have any issues which would affect their registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland will only be consideredin exceptional circumstances.

How old do I have to be?

If you are at least 23 years of age on 1 January of the year you want to enter, you can apply on grounds of mature years.

To enter in September 2026, you must have been born on or before 1 January 2003.

What is the closing date?

Apply by 1 February 2025.

Late applications may be considered on grounds of mature years where an applicant has taken the NMBI written assessment in the current year.

How do I apply?

EU applicants* apply via the Central Applications Office (CAO) for one or more of the following codes:

You must ensure that you complete the CAO application form fully, declaring all previous/current education, and supply supporting documents as appropriate (for example, further education or third level transcripts).

In addition you must also register for, and complete, a written assessment with theNMBI.

N.B. Applicants should note that non-EU applicants to nursing programmes will not be considered via CAO. If you are unsure of your status please check the fees website.

What documents do I need to send to CAO?

You must post the following documentation to CAO, Tower House, Eglinton Street, Galway:

How will my application be assessed?

Eligible applications are assessed solely on the basis of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) written assessment.

Is there an interview?

No. Offers are made on the basis of ranked scores in the NMBI written assessment only.

When will I know the decision on my application?

The results of the written assessment will be available in early June from NMBI.

Official offers will issue via CAO in early July and must be accepted within a week.
