Curricular information is subject to change.

This is a 7 week undergraduate module for Stage 3 BAgrSc Forestry students. This module provides an overview of sampling design approaches that can be used to quantify the composition of forest resources for management and planning purposes, including simple random sampling and stratified random sampling. Volume estimation methods including complete enumeration, full tariff, abbreviated tariff, fixed area plots, and volume/weight ratios will also be covered. A number of practical field sessions will be conducted where forest measurement skills will be developed. Computer-based sessions will also be conducted where you will learn to process, analyse and interpret field data, including determining the precision of the estimates derived from fixed area plots. The integration of sampling designs within a GIS including georeferenced area sampling frames will be covered. \ \
