Faith is an important part of the college experience for many international students at UCD. That's why we provide prayer and contemplation rooms on campus for students to practice their faith or simply take time to reflect.
Read this short guide to discover the welcoming prayer and contemplation rooms available on both the Belfield and Smurfit campuses for you to choose from.
James Joyce Library Multi-Faith Room
Located in room 206 on the second level of the James Joyce Library, this multi-faith space is open to anyone using the library. It is a quiet place for you to pray, meditate, or reflect between those all-important study sessions.
This room does not require a booking and is open to all faiths.
Learn more on the UCD Faith and Religion page.
Woodview House Prayer Room
Woodview House offers a welcoming Muslim prayer room, which is run by the UCD Islamic Society.
The building is located on the access road past the UCD Health Sciences Centre and the UCD Conway Institute. It is the cream, flat-roofed building on the right-hand side at the beginning of the woodland walk. This is its Google Maps location.
Khadija, a UCD Islamic Society committee member, has this to say about the space:
The Woodview house prayer room is honestly such a peaceful place on campus. With how hectic college can get, having this dedicated space for prayer allows me to reset and it’s such a blessing. Also being a healthcare student - the location is a nice bonus too!
Booking is not required for this space, so you can drop in whenever you want!
Find out more on the UCD Faith and Religion page.
Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Church
This Christian prayer space is located between the UCD Student Centre and the Agriculture & Food Science Centre. It is opposite Science South, which is home to the School of Chemistry on campus.
The church is open from 8am-7pm every day and welcomes all.
Booking is not required. For up-to-date mass information and times, visit the UCD Chaplaincy page.
The Contemplation Room at St. Stephen’s Chaplaincy
This Christian space is attached to St. Stephen’s Chaplaincy, facing the upper lake and the UCD Confucius Centre.
Booking is not required for you to use this space, and it is open 8am-9pm every day during term time and welcomes all.
Learn more on the St. Stephen’s Chaplaincy page.
Student Societies to Consider
See the full list of student societies on the UCD Societies page.
Smurfit Graduate Business School
If you are applying to the Smurfit Graduate Business School campus, there is also a dedicated multi-faith prayer room here, located in room E123.
Find out more on the UCD Faith and Religion page.
Islamic Cultural Centre
Although not based on the UCD campus or affiliated with UCD, the Islamic Cultural Centre in Clonskeagh is only a stone’s throw away from the Belfield campus, approximately a 10-minute walk from the Sport and Fitness Centre.
This Islamic complex houses a mosque, a library, a restaurant, a shop, and a créche. This is its Google Maps location.
