This module is designed for students in Animal Science/Animal Science Equine/Animal & Crop Production/Dairy Business/Agri-Environmental Sciences. The module is designed to give students an understanding of nutrition for both ruminant and monogastric farm animals. Topics dealt with include the following: structure and function of the digestive system, an overveie of the major classes of feedstuffs, the processes of digestion and absorption especially in relation to energy, protein, minerals and vitamins. In addition an introduction to metabolic disorders; nutrient requirements and systems of energy and protein evaluation of feeds; feed additives; feed processing will be delivered.\

### What will I learn?

###### Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to: Summarise the key facts and principles about digestion, absorption and metabolism of nutrients and major classes of feedstuffs. In addition learners will be able to outline and explain, at an appropriate level, the main principles, concepts and ideas relevant to digestive and metabolic disorders and the feeding of farm animals; Access, interrogate and interpret databases on both feedstuffs and nutrient requirements of farm animals; Apply nutritional knowledge to concrete situations and solve simple animal feeding problems.
