Waterloo Region ranks #7 in North America's top tech talent markets
Waterloo region ranks #7 in North America's top tech talent markets according to a new survey by CBRE, a global leader in commercial real estate. Jobs in tech roles grew 58% from 2021 to 2024, place Waterloo ahead of Vancouver, Montreal, and Ottawa.
Waterloo students are big contributors to the local tech market. With innovation hubs like Velocity and companies like Google, Apple, Amazon, and Square calling the region home, it's clear that Waterloo has earned its spot among the top ten tech talent markets in North America.

Times Higher Education subject rankings lists Waterloo subjects among top 100 in the world
In the recent Times Higher Education (THE) 2026 subject rankings, Waterloo once again ranks among the world's top universities.
THE's subject rankings include the top 1,600 universities worldwide. Waterloo ranks
- 162nd in the world (overall ranking),
- 78th in engineering and technology, and
- 41st in computer science.
Other top subject areas that rank among the top in the world include business and economics, medical and health, physical sciences, psychology, social sciences, life sciences, and arts and humanities.
