RESEARCH FOCUS AREAS
Health and Well-being
We’re solving for medical advances that once seemed impossible. Rice engineers are developing faster, more accessible healthcare innovations. We've been at the cutting edge of biomedical engineering since 1963 when we helped design the first artificial heart. Today, our engineers harness that same pioneering spirit to discover life-saving solutions for the most challenging medical and public health issues.
Partnerships with industry leaders and the Texas Medical Center are at the heart of health and well-being research at Rice Engineering. In the BioScience Research Collaborative, Rice Neuroengineering Initiative, Digital Health Initiative, and the Biotech Launch Pad, Rice researchers develop new technologies to prevent, diagnose, and accelerate next-generation treatments for cancer, neurological diseases, viruses, and other illnesses.
