Engaging with Rice Alumni is a critical component of your professional growth and career development.
At Rice, we believe that success isn't a solo flight - it is powered by our diverse community of over 60,000 alumni working across every industry and corner of the globe. From astronauts and tech leaders to artists and entrepreneurs, the Rice network is a vital part of your Career Ecosystem, offering a unique vantage point on the world of work. By tapping into these connections early, you gain the competitive advantage needed to navigate your path from the Rice hedges to a fulfilling career.
There are three primary ways to activate this network and start building your career ecosystem.
- What: Short-term, job-shadowing or informational interviewing experiences lasting 1-3 days.
- When: Offered during the Winter and Spring breaks
- Why: Get a "day in the life" perspective by touring facilities, observing workplace culture, and gaining insights into the skills needed to be successful. It's the best way to build your Rice network and explore industries.
- How: Applications are accepted via 12twenty in October and January before each student break.
- What: A dedicated platform for Rice University career conversations and connections.
- Why: Skip the cold emails asking for career advice. This platform uses smart matching to connect you with alumni for authentic insights into specific industries, graduate school pathways, or career transitions.
- How: Visit Ask an Owl and ask your first question!

- What: The world's largest professional network, featuring 60,000+ Rice University Alumni.
- Why: Explore the careers of 60,000+ Rice alumni. Use the "Alumni" tab on the Rice University page to filter by the degree they earned, where they live, and where they work.
- How: Build your profile and use the search filters to find Owls at your dream companies so you can start connecting.
