APPLYING FOR AID

# Visiting and Continuing Education Students

As a visiting or continuing studies student, you have the opportunity to participate in courses offered through Rice without enrolling as a regular degree-seeking student.

#### Visiting Students

Visiting students are not eligible for federal, state or institution financial aid, including school-certified private alternative education loans. However, students who are in a program of study that will lead to a certificate or degree may be eligible to apply for educational loans that are not school-certified.

#### Continuing Education Students

Continuing Education students are not eligible for federal, state or need-based institutional financial aid. Continuing education students enrolled in a non traditional degree granting program or a program of study that will lead to a certificate, may finance the cost of attendance with a school certified private alternative education loan.

**Apply for a Private Loan**

Federal regulations require all private loan borrowers to review a series of disclosures and complete the Applicant Self-Certification Form. The student may obtain a copy of the Self-Certification form from the private educational loan lender or [here](https://rice.box.com/s/fe4sap7fmg01eywpdm0c9a6tixj3oof6 "Student Self-Certification Form"). The student will need to know cost of attendance (COA) and financial aid information. Please contact your program coordinator for this information. The lender will submit the approved loan application to the Glasscock School of Continuing Education for certification. We recommend that you allow for several weeks of processing between when you apply and when you anticipate needing the funds.

Private and alternative loan lenders offer a wide selection of educational loans to bridge the gap between expenses and the student's immediate out of pocket expenses. Please be advised that the private loan in combination with other accepted financial aid cannot exceed the cost of attendance determined by the Glasscock School of Continuing Education. Due to the required credit review, the Glasscock School of Continuing Education cannot guarantee that all students who apply will qualify for loan funds.

A list of private lenders used by Rice University students during the previous academic year may be found by clicking the Rice University ELMSelect tool and selecting Continuing Education. Students have the right and the ability to select the educational loan provider of his or her choice and are not obligated to utilize any lender listed on this list.
