Overview

Leading companies around the world are taking steps to increase diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the workplace, not only in an effort to attract top talent, but also to drive organizational performance and innovation.

The Leading Workplace Diversity program from Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business seeks to equip you with the strategy and insight needed to lead diversity and encourage inclusivity in your workplace. You’ll learn discrimination-reduction tactics to reduce workplace bias and overcome organizational barriers to diversity, as well as organizational recruitment strategies to attract, select and retain diverse talent. Esteemed intellects in the field of organizational diversity, Academic Directors Dr. Mikki Hebl and Dr. Eden King will discuss the financial, moral and realistic imperative of DEI within organizations, explore ways to create positive signals for DEI and provide strategies to reduce employee attrition through inclusive leadership. Throughout the program, you’ll discover practical tools and how best to apply them, culminating in an enhanced ability to cultivate and retain diversity in your organization.

Course Takeaways

Course Curriculum

Unpack the concepts that inform diversity, equity and inclusion decisions as you work through two skill-building courses.

Course 1: Introduction to Diversity in the Workplace

This course from Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business introduces you to the value and challenges of championing diversity and inclusion. With a foundation in effective recruitment and management strategies to attract and retain diverse talent, it explores the basics of diversity, why diversity matters at an organizational level and its moral, financial and realistic imperative. Learners will create a diversity needs analysis for their organization and learn discrimination reduction tactics to overcome workplace bias—how, at an organizational level, one can reduce the negative impact of bias among employees, regardless of rank or competency.

Course 2: Cultivating Organizational Diversity

This course from Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business teaches you how to build and cultivate a truly diverse and inclusive organization and leadership style. Based on Dr. Mikki Hebl and Dr. Eden King’s extensive teaching and research in the science of organizational diversity, you’ll explore practical talent management and organizational strategies to attract, select and retain talent in order to cultivate diversity within your organization. The course also explores ways to enhance the quality of the employee selection process and addresses practical strategies for doing so. The final module concludes with expert-led ways in which to reduce employee attrition and retain diverse groups of employees, by creating opportunities for growth and authentic organizational spaces that allow diversity to flourish.
