GULF SCHOLARS PROGRAM AT RICE UNIVERSITY
GSP@RICE
A team experience, designed to create an inclusive community of diverse students to equip them as leaders in the field of resilience within the Gulf Coast and beyond.
Become a Gulf Coast Scholar
Are you interested in natural hazards and its impact on the Gulf Coast? Are you concerned about the disparate impact of climate change on low-income communities and BIPOC populations? Do you want to lead innovative solutions to address the challenges posed by climate hazards? If so, the Gulf Scholars Program at Rice University (GSP@Rice) is for you!
The School of Engineering and the Center for Civic Leadership with support from the National Academies Gulf Research Program (NAS-GRP) offers this interdisciplinary program for sophomore students from across the Rice campus.
The Gulf Scholars Program facilitates a deeper comprehension of the effects of natural hazards and climate stressors facing urban and industrial communities in the region. It also prepares and inspires students to become change agents in the areas of sustainability and resilience in the Gulf Coast region.
GSP@Rice accepts applications early fall semester from current sophomores and transfer students with sophomore standing across all majors on campus and requires a yearlong commitment.
The program includes field trips, community engagement, formal mentorship opportunities, a funded research experience, and skills development in leadership, innovation, communication, and teamwork.
