Transient Students

You’re considered a Transient Student if you enroll at Georgia Tech to take advanced coursework that will transfer back to your home institution so that you may complete your coursework there. Transient Students are classified as non-degree, and are not normally eligible to continue studies at Georgia Tech with the intent of obtaining a degree from the Institute.

Once you’re admitted as a transient student, you’re eligible to take classes during the approved semester only. Admission does not imply or guarantee future enrollment at Georgia Tech.

International students: If you’re not a U.S citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident, you may only apply to be a Transient Student if you’re participating in an approved Georgia Tech Office of International Education (OIE) study abroad or exchange program.

Application Steps

To apply as a Transient Student, you must have completed a minimum of thirty (30) semester credit hours or forty-five (45) quarter credit hours after the date of high school graduation. You must have a GPA of at least 3.0.

Complete the following steps to apply:

  1. Submit your Georgia Tech Non-Degree Application.
  2. Pay the non-refundable application fee.
  3. Submit your official college transcripts from all previous college institutions you’ve attended. Application documents may be submitted in several ways.

Document Submission Options 4. Secure permission to enroll at Georgia Tech and in your preferred courses using the permission form that applies to your admission type.

Important Dates

These deadlines are for students applying to enroll at the Atlanta campus. Students applying for one of Georgia Tech’s campuses abroad or for an exchange or study abroad program coordinated by our Office of International Education will have earlier deadlines determined by OIE.

Class Registration

The transient student registration period follows the degree-seeking student registration period. A transient student must have permission to take classes at Georgia Tech as authorized by the Registrar at the home institution.

Financial Aid

Transient applicants should contact their home institution financial aid offices to determine if their aid can be used during transient terms.
