### Check student visa conditions
If you are an international student on a student visa (subclass 500), you can volunteer and work up to 48 hours per fortnight while studying and unlimited hours during study breaks.
### Apply for a Tax File Number
To work in Australia, you must have a tax file number (TFN). You can apply for a TFN online through the Australian Taxation Office for free. International students will also need to determine their tax residency.
Superannuation (or 'super') is a portion of your salary that is invested into a super fund by your employer for when you retire. Understanding how super works will help you manage your finances.
### Know your workplace rights
The Fair Work Ombudsman provides information to help you understand your workplace rights that include protections, working hours, minimum pay rates, and leave entitlements.
