How do I join the RMIT Career Mentoring Program?

The RMIT Career Mentoring Program has three intakes per year. Once the connection period opens, industry mentors and student mentees will be able to send and receive mentoring requests for a period of 3 weeks. What is RMIT Career Mentoring?

As an RMIT student or first-year graduate, you have access to one of the largest and most unique 1-to-1 career mentoring programs in the nation.**\  Now in its 12th year, the flagship RMIT Career Mentoring program continues to foster meaningful 1-to-1 mentorships between RMIT students/recent alumni and industry professionals. \ \ With RMIT's strong links to industry, students and recent alumni receive instant access to a powerful and diverse network of industry leaders - both locally and globally. \  \ The mentoring relationships made in this program help prepare students and recent alumni \ for a successful future beyond RMIT.  \ \ RMIT mentors are here to offer their expertise and help you grow professionally. \ \ Join now to become a mentee.**

MEETING YOUR MENTOR \ Once the mentor has accepted your meeting or partnership request, it’s time to prepare for your mentorship. \ \ Before you meet with your mentor, think about your career goals and write down any initial questions that come to mind for your mentor to answer. You may even like to send your questions through to your mentor before you meet, so they have some time to prepare their answers.  \ \ You will find a range of helpful resources and topics to discuss with your mentor in the ‘Mentee Resource Library'. \ \ ONE-OFF MEETING TO ONGOING-PARTNERSHIP \ If you decided to start with a one-off meeting, you now have the opportunity to continue this mentoring relationship in a 2-month mentoring partnership, if both parties agree. Simply click, 'request partnership' on the mentor's profile and wait for the mentor to accept. \ \ REPEAT THE MENTORSHIP PROCESS \ Apply again the following semester to participate again!

How do I get started?

  1. Complete a Mentee/Student Application form for the next intake.
  2. Register to attend ONE studentonboarding training session.
  3. We will admit you to the program.
  4. Once the Connection Period commences, send a request to a mentor of your choice.
  5. Meet with your industry mentor every week or two during your mentoring partnership to learn and grow!

Why should I become a mentee?

As an RMIT mentee, you will:

What makes a successful mentee?

In a 2-month mentoring partnership, you'll want to let your mentor know how often you would like to connect, and what type of communication works best for you (in-person, video-call or phone). We encourage you to spend one hour per fortnight building the connection, at minimum. \  \ Approach your mentoring partnership with an open mind, professionalism, and respect. Be receptive to suggestions and feedback provided by your mentor. Make sure you have thought of some questions for your mentor and come prepared each time you connect. \  \ RMIT Career Mentoring is about building your professional network, exploring areas of interest, developing your professional and communication skills, gaining exposure to career options, and connecting your studies and career.\ \ Please do not ask your mentor for a job or internship. RMIT Career Mentoring is not a direct resource for finding a job, though it can often help with this down the line. \  \ Contact us: mentoring@rmit.edu.au
